BGH Volunteer Council Volunteering at Bonner General Health is a wonderful way to make new friends and contribute to the good work of the medical community! The BGH Volunteer Council (BGHVC) is always looking for the support and enthusiasm of new volunteers. If you would like to join the BGHVC, contact Kim, our Volunteer Services Manager at 208-265-3329. Where We Help Volunteer Council members assist in various areas throughout the hospital, providing those special “extras” that make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients. The Volunteer Council asks adult members to complete 75 hours of volunteer service annually, and junior volunteers to perform 50 hours annually. Below are a few of the areas where our members volunteer: Business Office Cafeteria Kootenai Clinic Cancer Services Cardiac Rehabilitation Community Development Emergency Department Gift Shop Home Health Hospice Human Resources Materials Medical/Surgical Unit Outpatient/ Same Day Surgery Pharmacy Quality/Risk Management Reception Desks Rehabilitation Our Meetings The Executive BGH Volunteer Council meets at the hospital 4 times a year. These meetings are open to all members. Volunteer Council members have 3 luncheons a year: Spring Luncheon Summer Picnic Christmas Luncheon Volunteer Orientation Volunteering in a hospital environment is a rewarding experience! To ensure the volunteer experience is a rewarding one, all volunteers complete an orientation to become familiar with the unique aspects of a hospital setting. The orientation covers areas such as: Annual Education Requirements BGH Confidentiality Agreement BGH Standards of Behavior Criminal Background Check Drug Testing HIPAA Hospital Identification Badges Hospital Privileges Hospital Tour TB testing Uniforms/Dress Code Volunteer Council Events Volunteer Council members host and participate in many fun events throughout the year, such as: Bake Sales Christmas “Parade of Trees” Special Drawings Fundraising Funds raised by the Volunteer Council are used for the continued education of volunteers who attend the annual IHA Volunteer Leadership Conferences in Boise, Idaho, Educational Grants for BGH employees, and for recognition awards. Gifts for Babies Born at BGH Every baby born at BGH receives a gift bag assembled by the Volunteer Council full of items donated by our community. Each baby born in the month of December at BGH also receives a red fleece stocking and red and white knit hat handmade by BGHVC members.
